Songs from the Last Page is a unique song-writing and live performance project created by Gareth Williams for Chamber Music Scotland. The project toured Scotland performing at numerous Book Festivals, Libraries, Arts Festivals in 2022, and again in 2023 at several theatres and venues including the Edinburgh Storytelling Centre as part of the Made in Scotland Showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Originating through support from EventScotland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig as a part of Scotland's vibrant Year of Stories, the collection was developed through a practice of turning to the final page of a book/story/novel and using only the words of the final lines found there to create lyrics - refrains, choruses, verses etc...
The project continues to grow as a collection of original literary chamber-pop songs that transform and reflect on the stories found on the pages of these books, exploring simultaneous notions of regeneration and elegy in the same breath.
